Developing an End-to-End System from Infusion Pump to App and HIPAA-Compliant Cloud Infrastructure

Developing an End-to-End System from Infusion Pump to App and HIPAA-Compliant Cloud Infrastructure

Problem

With remote therapy and care solutions, the provider does not know how the device is functioning, how the patient is interacting with the device, or how the treatment is going. Similarly, the patient has little insight into their care regimen or progress, nor an easy way to communicate with their provider to exchange timely information. To provide this valuable data and bi-directional functionality, a full end-to-end system from infusion pump to an app and a HIPAA-compliant cloud infrastructure is needed.

Background

Veranex (formerly Ximedica) was asked to turn idea into reality: a smart controller connected to an infusion pump with the ability to control the basal rate, issue regulated bolus on-demand to the patient, and collect and store information locally on the infusion device. This controller would pair with a mobile device using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), giving the patient insight into their post-op progress and a means to digitally issue a bolus. The BLE would also connect the data to a HIPAA-compliant cloud infrastructure, giving the surgeon insight into device functionality and the ability to monitor and administer care remotely. Tracking the frequency of bolus button presses would help the surgeon determine the optimum dosage of medication for post-operation pain management.

Why Veranex?

– Industrial Design and Human Factors
– UI/UX Design
– Product Ownership and Agile Principles
– Mobile and Web Software Engineering
– Embedded Firmware Engineering and BLE
– Cloud Infrastructure and Data Management
– Fluidic Control
– Design for Manufacturability
