To which species does this CT scan image belong?

Answer:

This is an image of an ovine (sheep)!

Here’s how we know: The kidneys are paired and lie in a retroperitoneal position, and the left kidney is the most mobile. Due to the rumen taking up most of the left side of the abdomen it is normal in the ovine to find the left kidney displaced toward the right side.

Comparative study of body structures of different animal species is key to understanding the adaptive changes they have undergone and to selecting the right model for your preclinical study.
